Annandale Distillery Group’s two sites in Dumfries & Galloway have been recognised by SME News – Scottish Enterprise Awards 2022.
The awards celebrate businesses who work tirelessly to make Scotland one of the most diverse and dynamic economic areas in the Europe.
The Globe Inn, a firm fixture in Dumfries’ High Street since 1610 has been named – Best Fine Dining Restaurant in South West Scotland.
After being acquired by Annandale Distillery Group, The Globe Inn was sympathetically restored by new custodians Professor David Thomson and Teresa Church in 2019.
The Globe Inn is fast becoming the home of unforgettable fine dining experiences, with menus created by a team of award-winning Michelin-experience chefs, led by Executive Chef Jonathan Brett. The dishes are deliberately bold, delicately plated, and delightfully served: traditional Scottish food expertly prepared using fresh, local ingredients and modern and classical culinary techniques.
Annandale Distillery, home of the award-winning Man O’Words and Man O’Sword whiskies was named Best Single Malt Whisky Distillery in Scotland.
The distillery reopened in 2014 following a £10.5 million restoration and now welcomes over 25,000 guests every year, while the production team work tirelessly creating the Single Cask, Single Malt whiskies named after Robert Burns and Robert the Bruce respectively.
Owners of Annandale Distillery Group David Thomson and Teresa Church are highly delighted with these awards, stating “Our aim back in 2007 was to return Single Malt Scotch Whisky production to the South of Scotland. To be recognised as the Best Single Malt Whisky Distillery in Scotland in 2022, is the culmination of much hard work and dedication by our colleagues at Annandale Distillery, combined with a huge amount of local support. We are equally delighted with the various honours bestowed upon The Globe Inn, and its highly skilled team of chefs and front-of-house staff. It is an enormous privilege to be custodians of this historic building, which undoubtedly has an important place in Scottish culture and the history of our nation.”
“This is amazing news, and we are extremely proud of the work of our teams”, said Lee Medd, Group Marketing Manager at Annandale Distillery. “The team at Annandale Distillery work tirelessly every day to ensure our guests have a truly memorable experience.
To be named Best Single Malt Whisky Distillery in Scotland is a true credit to the work of our whole team, especially the production team headed by Mark Trainor”
Mark said “We are all so proud to be part of everything that Annandale represents, and I couldn’t be prouder of our team. We all look forward to continuing to bring David and Teresa’s dreams to life in the years to come. Both whiskies have achieved success with Man O’Sword – our peated whisky being named ‘Best Single Cask Single Malt 10 Years and Under’ in 2020 in the renowned Jim Murray Whisky Bible, and our unpeated Man O’Words taking the title in 2021”
Lee Medd added “The success of The Globe Inn, named Best Fine Dining Restaurant in South West Scotland is well deserved, since we reopened after the pandemic we have been receiving multiple 5-star reviews from guests and critics. The team led by Executive Chef Jonathan Brett deliver casual fine dining in a way never experienced in the South of Scotland. We are extremely proud of the work and the menus that Jonathan and his team including Scottish Young Chef of the Year Fraser Cameron deliver to every guest.”
