“No malt should be quite this good at this tender age…”
“…a truly world-class distillery in our midst…The malt is absolutely immaculate…”
- Jim Murray.
Thanks to this wonderful malt we were awarded Jim Murray's 'Best Scotch 10 Years & Under Single Cask' award for the second year in succession.
Following last year's stellar effort from our peated 2015 Vintage Man O' Sword. We are absolutely over the moon.
Here is Jim's review and our tasting notes.
Annandale Vintage Man O’ Words 2015 once used ex-bourbon cask, cask no. 150 db
(96) n24 as though concentrated grist, has squeezed a near perfect degree of lime juice, added a just-so amount of freshly cut grass. How can a whisky this young be so hypnotic on the nose…? t24 and now it is the mouthfeel which blows you away. Forget about the 61.6%. With the Murray Method the malt simply purrs onto the taste buds, the intensity of the grain growing, its youth charmingly met by sympathetic vanillas form the oak... and all this couched by a canoodling oiliness which retains every last atom of the gristy sugars for as long as possible;
f23.5 spicy vanilla tingle. The malt carries its outstanding work until a late milk chocolate note signs the finale off with a flourish; b24.5 considering this is a 5-y-o whisky only, I think we are going to have to consider the possibility that we have a truly world-class distillery in our midst…So beautifully made and matured, the age seems almost irrelevant. The malt is absolutely immaculate: no malt should be quite this good as this still tender age…! 61.6%. sc.
Appearance- light golden hue
Nose- beautifully sweet notes on the nose of cream soda, pear drops, fresh green Granny Smith apple.
Palate- wonderful burst of tropical fruits including mango, pineapple and cool fresh melon leads on to lingering notes of vanilla and creamy caramel.
