Annandale Distillery is counting down to this year’s Imbibe Live, where trade visitors will have an opportunity to discover the fine single cask, single malt Scotch whiskies from Annandale Distillery.
Annandale’s unpeated expression Man O’Words, named for local poet and exciseman Robert Burns, is a light-hearted whisky to inspire. Dave Broom’s recent review on scotchwhisky.com called out ‘great balance’ and ‘an assured presence’.
Jim Murray was quick to notice the influence of the late Dr Jim Swan when reviewing Annandale’s peated expression - Man O’Sword - for his 2018 Whisky Bible. Named for the 7th Earl of Annandale, King Robert the Bruce, it’s powerful and distinctively smoky. It’s a widely held misconception that Lowlands whisky has a light and floral style. In fact, the majority of Lowlands distilleries made peated whisky, and co-owner David Thomson is keen to rewrite the story.
Production at Annandale Distillery began late in 2014, following a lengthy restoration project. Just a handful of those first production casks were bottled in 2018, with a second release of 2015 casks following later in the year.
The team selected a number of ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks for the 2015 release, and both will be available to sample at the event in July.
